Which type of pet?
Hi, I want to be a Barrage/Vigorous Spirit ranger. I want to bring Charm animal along also. I don't really know what My pet should be (as in what type of animal), and what type of temperament it should have (dire, elder, hearty)...and how I should get both of them.
Thanks alot!!!

Most go for dire and you can't have 2 of the same dire and elder are the same I believe as elder is the PvP version of dire. The type of pet is up to you I like dogs so I went wolfs.

Dire does more damage with less health.
Hearty has more health with less damage.
Elder is the balance between.
Since this is PvE, just pick any pet you want and raise it Dire.

Pets don't get DP in pve; I like dire but you may just want extra meat on the front lines in which case hearty is probably better.

Type of pet is mostly preference.
I'd suggest go either Dire or Hearty. I use hearty cuz I like a fat pet that keeps the enemies busy.

Many many moons ago I charmed a Melandrus Stalker in Pre-Searing. Over 6 mil Exp on my Ranger later I still have the same pet.

I would go with a rainbow pheonix if you have the time to invest in 10 max titles and make it dire.

It's all about personal preference. It doesn't really matter too much what pet you pick or what temperament you raise it to. If you want more damage, make it dire. If you want a better tank, make it Hearty. If you want the balance, make it elder. The pets are all pretty much the same too in terms of doing the same amount of damage. A Dire wolf is gonna do just as much damage as a Dire Lizard.

In contrast to common belief a dire (or aggressive) pet might be better for tanking since it's lowered hitpoints would make it a more attractive target - and a tank is supposed to be just that.

shhh dont tell tanks that or they might actually become useful<_<>_>
Dire has worked fine for me but really I just used to use the pet for corpse fodder. but after the nerf I got a widow.

I like dire for the extra damage...right now I'm running a dire jahai rat but I'm gonna switch to a polar bear to match my white armor.

I also like elder and I would say get a Black Widow or a Phoenix and then work on getting a Rainbow Phoenix.

Why does everyone like that armor... It looks like trash on females imo.
Elite Drakescale ftw.

pheonix and black moa are very pretty imo.
But i always go for dire black bear for 3 reasons:
- easy to cap and level to 20/dire from port sledge
- Brutal Mauling is perfect for R/P (mauling triggers shouts)
- Still big when dire
A real guide without my opinions:

@bowstring: dont be too quick with "everyone knows...". I myself got that information from that certain guide. Give credit when credit is due.

Who needs the guide everyone knows that death lvling a pet is the easiest way to get it to dire and if you want elder just put on a bunch of sup runes until you have the lowest health then use a vamp wep.
